Keeping African Violets in Full Bloom

As an indoor flower, African Violets are the most dependable for year-round color and variety. Easy to raise, all they really need is an occasional drink, some sunshine and a good feeding every few weeks. Violets like smaller pots but need good drainage because they don’t like wet soil or damp leaves.

I love my violets all grouped together for interesting color and texture. Right now, I’ve got two southern windowsills filled with plants that haven’t stopped blooming all winter. From deep purple to delicate pink, they really brighten up these dreary winter days. And the dark green foliage adds an interesting backdrop to all my indoor plants. I also have a special variegated magenta violet that was given to me by my Grandma over 15 years ago. She’s passed on but I still remember how she lovingly cared for her violets even when her sight was failing. I’ve replanted this violet many times and passed the cuttings onto my nieces. What a special way to carry on our family history!
