My First Garden Pest of 2011…..Stink Bugs!!

Now that i am firmly focused on planting an organic garden and I have elaborated why you should also… the next step was to start my seedlings and after i established a great start to my organic garden, i just had to wait for the weather to cooperate to put them in my newly created raised bed.

Now if you live in the NorthEast or just about anywhere else in the country (except the West Cost and South West, it seems as if Spring wouldn’t ever come. Pounded with day after day of rain and cold temperatures, I was contemplating the idea of just container gardening inside my house for most of the year!! But luckily, this past weekend, Spring has broke and allowed for gardening. And the remainder of the gardeners in my area completely agreed as my garden center was absolutely packed!!! Lucikly for me, they had enough product that i could get my veggies in the ground!

After i brought my supplies home and was ready to plant my veggies, i have to elaborate on my first garden pest of the year!! This particular pest has been invading my home and garden alike (as well as most of the country) and I had to take care of this pest before exposing my fragile seedlings to their destruction. The pest is STINK BUGS!!!! These smelly pests reproduce so quickly, it makes it virtually impossible to eliminate them quickly. Organic being a major factor in my pest control solution, I needed a stink bug killer that would eliminate them organically and not leave harmful residuals in my home/garden. There is a product available that will fit this need, Safer brand EndALL. What makes this product effective against stink bugs is that it combines the power of insecticidal soap, pyrethrin and neem oil to produce a knockout punch that eliminates stink bugs virtually on contact. It ended up taking about 30-50 seconds for them to actually die but die they did!! Now that i took back control of my home/garden, i am able to plant my veggies and keep them free from stink bugs…. at least for the beginning of the season!

I will be keeping you up to date on the progress of my organic garden and the status of the stink bug infestation. Curious to learn more about stink bugs? This is the resource that I used to learn more….
