In South Carolina, where I was born, sweet potatoes are as common in the garden as on the plate. My great grandmother gave me a piece (slip) from one of her plants back in 1998. The frost date has passed (or close to passing) in most of the country, which means we can send our houseplants outdoors for their summer vacation. The bright light, fresh air, and rainfall always seem to rejuvenate them.

Spring has arrived with a bang. It’s 80° F today in Chicago! I know the cold weather here is not done, but it’s glorious now. The birds are back and singing. The snowdrops, crocuses, and anemones are blooming. For me it’s time to sow arugula, lettuce, and other field greens. But in the warmer parts of America, it’s tomato time!

I Hate Spiders!
Thinking about the insects in my home just makes my skin crawl! Spiders are just too nasty AND they attract the even grosser centipede who eats spiders.
